Description of Area: Galveston island offers 32 miles of relaxing beaches, superb restaurants, top resort hotels, marvelous downtown shopping, numerous antique stores, incredible art galleries, fabulous entertainment and one of the largest and well-preserved concentrations of Victorian architecture in the country. Galveston is a small romantic island tucked deep within the heart of south Texas possessing all the charm of a small southern town and just 40 minutes of the fourth largest city in the United States.

Job Details

Work Description: You should be prepared to fill any and all of the following positions: Wait staff/Server: Taking orders, serving food and drinks to customers in the restaurant, greeting and seating guests, clearing and setting tables, cleaning the kitchen and restaurant. Bus person: Clearing and setting tables, cleaning the kitchen and restaurant. You may also be asked to help with other aspects of running the restaurant at your employer’s request.

Salary and Bonuses: Wait staff will earn $2.12 per hour plus tips, which will lead to total per hour averages of $9.00-$10.00.

Work Hours: You will be working roughly 40 hours per week.

Accommodation Cost: $85.00 per week

Accommodation Description: You will be responsible for finding your own housing. Shared rooms can be found for approximately $85.00 per week. Your employer will assist you with housing listings. Until you find housing you can stay in the nearby inn for $35.00 per night. While staying in the Inn you will share the room with one other person.

Security deposit: You should be prepared to pay a housing deposit of at least $100.00 upon arrival.

Standard requirements for the Work Travel USA program sponsored by InterExchange, Inc. are:

  • Conversational English
  • Minimum placement duration 12 weeks (or for summer, until Labor Day, whichever is longer)
  • Minimum placement is 2.5 months in national parks

Uniform/Dress Code: You will be expected to maintain a neat and clean appearance at all times. You cannot have any visible piercings or tattoos, other than ear piercings. Your uniform on the job will be a long-sleeve company logo shirt or blouse and black dress pants. Bus people will also wear the shirt and an apron. For the kitchen staff you will need to wear black pants and a T-shirt. Black shoes are required for all jobs.
