Overview

Description of Business: The store has been in business since 1921. The Cafe and Pub is named after one of the more difficult routes to the summit of Mount McKinley, the tallest mountain in North America at 6194 meters. Here are served dozens of local beers and delicious traditional Alaskan food during the warm summers. The restaurant can seat approximately 100 customers, indoors and on a back deck. Food is served till midnight, 7 days per week. Colorful locals and other people from around the world – climbers, bush pilots, river guides come here to refuel and relax after their journeys. In addition, the business serves many clients of large cruise ships and other travel and tour companies who visit our community.

Description of Area: The Cafe and Store is located in Alaska 60 air miles to the gates of Denali National Park. It attracts thousands of tourists from May to September. The Alaska Railroad stops twice daily, traveling from Fairbanks and Anchorage with stops in Denali National Park. During the summer the sun shines 22 hours per day and temperatures average 12c-22c during the day.

Job Details

Work Description: You will be asked to do a variety of duties dependent upon the needs of your employer at the time. Please be aware that at least in the beginning, your main duty will be food preparation and dishwashing and/or working as a sales clerk in a food retail store. However, throughout the summer you should be prepared to do any and all of the following positions: Bus Person (setting and clearing tables, cleaning the restaurant, assisting the waiters), Kitchen Help (washing dishes, cleaning the kitchen, assisting the cook), Preparation Cooking (prep cook) involves preparing and cutting vegetables, preparing soups and salads in support of the cooks and simple kitchen duties. You will be working from established recipes and will receive on-site training. Store Clerk (stocking, general cleaning, serving coffee and ice cream).

Salary and Bonuses: $8.00 per hour, end of season bonus of $300.

Work Hours: You will usually be working 8 hours per day; 5-6 days per week. There may be late night work or early morning work.

Housing

Accommodation Cost: $35.00 per week

Accommodation Description: You will be living in a cabin with one other person. You will share kitchen and bathroom facilities in a larger house located next to the cabins. You will share an outdoor bathroom next to the cabin. Cabins will have bunkbeds, dining tables and chairs. You will be provided with one free or reduced cost meal at the work place per shift. You will also receive a 10% discount for purchases at the store.

Uniform/Dress Code: A company T-shirt will be provided. You must maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times. Yous hould bring black pants/slacks for working in the restaurant. No visible piercings or tattoos, and hair must be natural-looking
