Description of Business: This company is a family owned and operated business specializing in food services and hospitality. They operate three restaurants and one gift shop on island, Ohio. Every summer, about 100 college aged students are employed here, 20 of which are international students.

Description of Area: An island in Lake Erie’s western basin. You will have access to many outdoor summer activities such as sailing, parasailing, fishing, and water skiing. One of the world’s greatest amusement parks is only 20 minutes away.

Job Details

Work Description: Your duties will shift throughout the summer. You should be prepared to fill any and all of the following positions: Kitchen Help: Washing dishes, cleaning the kitchen, mopping floors, taking out garbage, chopping vegetables, and assisting the cook. Maintenance: Painting, carrying heavy objects, mopping floors, doing repairs, mowing the lawn, gardening, etc. Sales Help: Working the cash register, dealing with U.S. currency, answering questions, attending to customers and guests. Bus Person: Helping waiters and waitresses. Serving water, clearing and setting tables, taking out garbage, mopping floors, etc. Waitstaff/Hoststaff: Waiting on customers, answering questions, writing down lunch and dinner orders, serving food, dealing with U.S. currency, setting and clearing tables, greeting and sestiny guests, cleaning the kitchen or restaurant. You may also be asked to help with other aspects of running the shop at your employer’s request.

Salary and Bonuses: $6.75-$9.00 per hour, overtime 1.5 times hourly wage, you may also receive an ending bonus of $0.50 for every hour you worked for the entit summer upon a satisfactory completion of your work commitment (this does not apply if you are working in a tipped position)

Work Hours: 8 hours per day; 5-6 days per week.

Accommodation Cost: $45.00 per week

Accommodation Description: The accommodations will be in a 35 room dormitory-style with two people per room. High speed wireless internet is available in your dorm. You will have air conditioning, a fridge in each room, a television room, and access to a washer and dryer, a microwave, and internet services. You will have access to a shared bathroom and shower down the hall. Men and women will be on separate floors. You will be responsible for some of your own meals. You will be in walking distance to your job site. Employees are responsible for all of their own meals, but receive a 50% discount.

Security deposit:There will be a $100.00 deposit for your housing, which will be returned to you upon completion of the program if you keep your space clean.

  • Minimum placement duration 12 weeks (or for summer, until Labor Day, whichever is longer)
  • Minimum placement is 2.5 months in national parks

Uniform/Dress Code: You will be provided with a T-shirt with the company logo from your employer. You should bring from home four pairs of navy, tan or black shorts or slacks, white socks, and neat, clean sneakers. You must always maintain a neat hair style. Hair must be trimmed and hair below the shoulders must be tied back. No facial piercings or tattoos.

NOTE: Speaking English will be a fundamental part of your job and so you are encouraged to practice your speaking and comprehension skills as best you can before arriving.
