Description of Area: The National park holds monuments to nature’s size, beauty, and diversity: Immense mountains, rugged foothills, deep canyons, vast caverns and the world’s largest trees. The park is located in the southern Sierra Nevada, east of the San Joaquin Valley. It  is home to the General Sherman Tree, at 2.7 million pounds, by volume the largest Libiny tree on earth . Mt. Whitney crowning the Sierra Nevada, at 14,494 feet, is the tallest mountain in the contiguous United States. Other attractions include trails for every level of hiker from beginner to advanced, Crystal Cave, Moro Rock, fishing, horseback riding, alpine meadows and lakes.

Job Details

Work Description: Your primary duty will be Housekeeping or Utility: this will include, but is not limited to cleaning hotel rooms, making beds, vacuuming, general cleaning, dishwashing, taking out the garbage, fast food, food prep such as sandwiches, etc. Basic English. Everyone is tested for drug use prior to being employed. It is a simple urine test, results take up to 48 hours. It is extremely important that you are able to pass the pre-employment drug test or you will not be housed or employed. For cause drug testing may also take place after accidents.

Salary and Bonuses: $8.00 per hour

Work Hours: 30+ hours per week

Housing

Accommodation Cost: $25.00 per week

Accommodation Description: Small cabins or dorm room for 2 people each. About the sized of college dorm bedroom. We have a lunch room with TV, computer (wireless access) and pool table but you should really get outside, do some hiking, take pictures and practice English with the American employees. Meals are available at a cost of $3.25- 3.50.

Standard requirements for the Work Travel USA program sponsored by InterExchange, Inc. are:

  • Conversational English
  • Minimum placement duration 12 weeks (or for summer, until Labor Day, whichever is longer)
  • Minimum placement is 2.5 months in national parks

Uniform/Dress Code: As a customer service it is essential that all employees exhibit a well groomed appearance. Guests expect and deserve strict standards of cleanliness. A limited amount of jewelry is allowed and must be small and unobtrusive. No other body piercing jewelry is permitted other than earrings. Hair must be maintained in a neat, clean conservative manner. The style should not allow hair to fall over the face. Partially or completely shaved styles, unnatural colors, more than one color or uncombed styles will not be permitted. Facial hair should be clean shaven. If a beard or mustache is already fully developed it must be neatly trimmed and conservative. Food preparation employees must wear hair nets, are not permitted to wear jewelry on duty and must conform to all applicable federal and state health regulations. Footwear must be sturdy, fully enclose the foot and have good traction, Uniforms will be issued for majority of positions.
