Description of Business: This is a pool company that provides lifeguard and pool maintenance service to pools in Northern Virginia. This company hires many international students every summer.

Description of Area: You will be placed at various locations in Northern Virginia, in the suburbs of Washington, D.C.  There will be many restaurants and shopping centers located close to you, and you will easily be able to visit the nation’s capital as well.

Job Details

Work Description: Duties will include but will not be limited to swimmer and patron safety, area surveillance, keeping the pool area and filter room neat and clean, and rule enforcement. You will be dealing with customers on a daily basis, so you must exercise diplomacy, tact, and professionalism while working.

Salary and Bonuses: $7.25 per hour, overtime $10.50, starting after 40 hours

Work Hours: 8-10 hours per day, 5 days per week

NOTE: You must obtain current U.S. certifications in lifeguard training, first aid, and CPR to work as a lifeguard. This training will be provided to you by your employer for a discounted price of $100.00 (only half the cost of the training). You must be able to swim and ride a bike. You will be required to pass a swimming test and ride a bike to your place of work.

Accommodation Cost: $85.00 per week

Accommodation Description: Each student will be placed in an apartment with other students that will be performing the same job. The apartments are furnished and a phone is provided. All apartments are within 5 miles of your place of work. You will have a full kitchen, with pans and cutlery. There will be directions in all apartments on how to get to the nearest food store, library for internet, bank and other important locations.

Security deposit: There is a housing deposit of $200.00.

Standard requirements for the Work Travel USA program sponsored by InterExchange, Inc. are:

  • Conversational English
  • Minimum placement duration 12 weeks (or for summer, until Labor Day, whichever is longer)
  • Minimum placement is 2.5 months in national parks

Uniform/Dress Code: You will purchase a uniform from Titan Pool Service previous to your first day of work. You must wear uniform at all times. Uniform cost: $73.00-$81.00.

NOTE: English will still be a fundamental part of your job and so you are encouraged to continue practicing your speaking and comprehension skills before arriving.
